Your destination. Your S-Bahn. Each of us has our own personal goals, objectives and ambitions. Stuttgart’s S-Bahn operator knows this and so helps countless people get to exactly where they want to go every single day. We are there for all of our customers, providing transport without stress, traffic jams, vehicle fines and the constant search for parking spaces. Stretching from the busy centre of Baden-Württemberg’s capital to its green hinterland, our network is perfect for commuters and schoolchildren, tourists and concertgoers, people who want to stroll around town and diners with a restaurant reservation.
S-Bahn services form the cornerstone of the region’s public transport system, and since their inauguration in 1978, Deutsche Bahn AG has delivered reliable and far-sighted management. The S-Bahn network became an independent unit within DB Regio AG in 2002, a change which established a separate management team for more effective operations. Today, it consists of 226 km of track with 788 trains and 83 stations. Thanks to the region’s economic growth and the public’s increased awareness of environmentally friendly transportation, 2017 saw S-Bahn Stuttgart reach a new record of 127.8 million passengers, or no less than 420,000 passengers per day.
Dr. Dirk Rothenstein, managing director of S-Bahn Stuttgart, says, „We want to show our customers just how good our services are, so we plan to make the most of the opportunities that digitalisation offers. As the S-Bahn operator, we want to provide our passengers with innovative and modern mobility solutions.“ With this in mind, the company is working to install wifi on its entire S-Bahn fleet by summer 2019. It is also planning „passenger information managers“: a commuter and frequent traveller app will provide rail customers with personalised push notifications in the event of service disruptions, thereby helping them find alternatives for coping with a temporary problem.
