For people in the Stuttgart region, VVS Transit and Tariff Association Stuttgart (Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund Stuttgart, VVS) offers integrated and sustainable mobility. Together with its partners, it is contributing significantly to maintaining and improving mobility in the metropolitan Stuttgart area. The region served comprises not only the state capital of Stuttgart, but also its four neighbouring districts Böblingen, Esslingen, Ludwigsburg, and Rems-Murr-Kreis, an area of just over 3,000 square miles and a population of 2.4 million.
With its high quality services, attractive tariffs and its customer-friendly service, VVS attracts ever more public transport passengers. Together with transportation companies and client bodies, VVS developed the short-distance traffic system with busses, city trains and commuter trains into one of the best nationwide systems. Moreover, the VVS mobile passport integrates supplementary mobility offerings, such as car sharing and hire bikes. The customers have honoured the continuously improved mobility offer: Since the foundation of the VVS in 1978, the number of passengers has increased by 97 percent to today’s figure of over 349 million each year.
